Life Fitness, the global leader in commercial fitness equipment manufacturing, has expanded their work with the active ageing community through installing Life Fitness SCIFIT products at multiple care homes.
SCIFIT, acquired by Life Fitness in 2015, has specially designed exercise products and programmes to help improve strength, balance, flexibility and endurance to make it easier to perform daily activities.
The Good Support Group Limited, based at The Community Resource Centre in Plaistow, is a business wholly owned by the London Borough of Newham. The company offers a range of activities to help improve the health, fitness and wellbeing of adults with a range of health and social care needs, with the aim of helping them to maintain and develop independent lives. The gym facility on site has recently installed the Life Fitness Integrity Cross Trainer and Upright Bike along with a SCIFIT Total Body Ergometer, an upper body exerciser and lower body recumbent bike in one for a total body solution.
Ricky Wells, Health and Fitness Consultant to The Good Support Group, said: “The equipment is helping people with a wide range of disabilities and infirmities improve functional health and independence. As a qualified fitness instructor, my colleagues and I are helping to support people in using the equipment as part of a personalised training programme to improve the mobility and wellbeing of visitors.”
Life Fitness has also recently installed at Belong Ltd.’s latest care home in Didsbury, Manchester. The installation saw the introduction of the SCIFIT Upper Body Ergometer, SCIFIT Recumbent Bike and SCITIFT Recumbent Stepper. The complex, which opened on Monday 12th June, includes independent living apartments and specialist households providing 24-hour nursing and dementia care. The Belong Wigan care home, in Greater Manchester, will also be installing a SCIFIT Recumbent Bike in September, which features an adjustable step-through that adjusts up to a full 23 inches for safe and easy access, along with a removeable seat for direct wheelchair access.
Barbara Tait, Lead Exercise Instructor at Belong Ltd, commented: “The SCIFIT equipment is the best equipment on the market for active ageing. As a qualified fitness instructor, I help develop personalised training programmes to improve mobility and wellbeing for those in wheelchairs, Parkinson’s disease and stroke patients, incorporating all the SCIFIT equipment in their programmes. All the pieces of equipment are fully accessible and adaptable, and combined with the wide seats and handrails, it makes an appealing and comfortable workout for the residents.”
Andy Griffin, Internal Account Manager at Life Fitness, added: “The SCIFIT equipment is well designed to suit all users and the products are easy to use. With physical activity being key to healthy lifestyle, the equipment provides opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, which in turn helps to prevent slips, trips and falls, and may help speed recovery from injuries.”
